Our Sessions - Term Four 2018

Before you register please have a look below to see which session suits your child.

Please note we have had a few changes in ages for sessions for 2018 - this is to try to accomodate more gymnasts and provide sessions to meet your child/rens needs.

Play-gym

Or Playgym classes are about children playing and exploring within a gym environment. Parents/Caregivers join in the session alongside their child/children, encouraging and guiding them.

The sessions are planned according to the seven Fundamental Movement Patterns.  These patterns of movement set your children up with valuable movement skills and ability to assist them with all other sports and activities.  The movement patterns are also the start of pure gymnastics moves like rolls and handstands.

When you register 'Toddlers' is the Monday morning session for 18 months - 5 year olds; 'Playgym' is the Monday afternoon session for 3 1/2 - 5 year olds.

Juniors ( 5 - 8 years)

We have two Junior sessions at the YMI Hall, Te Awamutu.   The session starts with a warm-up then small groups rotate around different stations within the gym.

The sessions are planned according to the seven Fundamental Movement Patterns.  These patterns of movement set your children up with valuable movement skills and ability to assist them with all other sports and activities.  The movement patterns are also the start of pure gymnastics moves like rolls, handstands and cartwheels.  Once gymnasts are proficient with the basic movements the other skills will become easier.

The sessions will also work towards GymFun badges which your coach will discuss with you.
Parents are welcome to stay & support a station.  All groups have a trainee teenage coach with an adult coach to assist.

Boys only (8 years upwards)
This session is/can be split into a Junior and Senior group depending on the age mix of the attendees.  Both groups have the same program and apparatus use.  It is a mixture of conditioning, male gymnasts apparatus eg high bar, mushroom and tumbling (flipping) on the floor, tramp and double mini.  The boys are given ideas to work on or they can train and progress with skills that interest them.  Different sessions and terms will have different apparatus use.
